I was accepted as a Cavan Images stock photographer a while ago, but I never submitted anything. I decided to submit some stuff I thought I'd never use for anything else and they ended up accepting several photos. This is exciting because not only do I get paid, but it gives me more exposure as well. I realized that I have SO MANY photos, most of which I never do anything with aside from post on my facebook and website. So needless to say, I plan on submitting a few hundred more. This is a really cool opportunity because I can make money while traveling and shooting, which is something I do anyway. So it's kind of a win/win. It will definitely force me to think of shooting more in terms of story-telling as well which is something I really want to work on more. I want to shoot not only real life stories of everyday life and exploration and adventure, but also set up stories using "models". And by models I mean my friends. If you have an idea for a story of any kind, shoot me an email or a message on facebook.
I finally created a facebook for my photography. When I post stuff here, I'll post it there too. There are so many social media options these days. It's hard to keep it all straight, but I tend to like the ones where photos are prominent.
I'm also working on applications for a couple of really cool opportunities. One is to become one of the artists able to sell work in the Spanish Village here in San Diego. I've been perfecting my unique print style for the last couple months and I am excited about how the prints are turning out. I will post photos soon. The other application is for grad school, but it is a totally different kind of grad school, geared toward travel and adventure work. I plan on producing epic work in the next year or so anyway, so I might as well get expert advice on my work and about the industry while I'm doing it. I haven't been shooting a ton lately, but I am slowly getting back into it. Plus I'm still archiving the thousands of photos from all my adventures last year. I can't believe I haven't got through them all yet. I think that is a testament to the fact that I really like shooting and traveling more than I like editing. Another reason I'm excited to be shooting for Cavan. They do all the editing! Awesome!
